Who Are the Investors Behind Channel Angels?
You’re an entrepreneur seeking funding for your early stage startup. But you also want to ensure that angel investors and venture capitalists truly understand your mission, technology, target market and partner ecosystem strategy.
We built Channel Angels with those specific needs in mind. Our investor community includes…
1. Accredited Investors: Our angels are accredited investors, as defined by the SEC. Our community includes roughly 15 investors who have participated in Channel Angels investments over the past year or so. Moreover, an additional 50+ angel investors have inquired about participating in deal flow for 2023 and beyond. We expect to engage many of those angels in one or more deals during the first half of 2023.
2. Current MSP Owners and Operators: The Channel Angels community includes business and technology experts who run MSP (managed IT service provider) businesses. Examples include:
Kevin Blake, president, ICS Solutions Group
Vince Kent, CEO of cloudIT
Ryan Lakin, president of IronEdge Group
Reese Ormand, CEO of Techvera, an Electric company
That MSP leadership experience ensures that Channel Angels understands the potential market fit for your technology products and services. And in many cases, the executives listed above have hands-on M&A (merger and acquisition) experience.
3. Former MSP Owners and Operators: What does it take to launch, build and sell a successful business? Here again, our community of accredited investors has hands-on experience. Example include:
Dave Cava, partner and recruiting director at Encore Strategic. Dave successfully sold his financial services-focused MSP business in 2019. He now offers talent and recruiting services to MSPs.
Lloyd Wolf, founder of Achieve Business Services. Lloyd successfully sold his MSP business in 2017. He now offers EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) services to business owners.
4. Software Entrepreneurs: Our members — again, accredited investors — have built and run software companies in and around the MSP sector. Examples include:
Gerwai Todd, CEO of TimeZest — a scheduling automation system that makes MSPs far more productive.
David Setzer, CEO of Mailprotector — an email security company that’s purpose built for MSPs, and also has venture backing.
5. Media Veterans: In my own case, I’ve covered the MSP market as a blogger, journalist, researcher and analyst for roughly two decades.
That all said, Channel Angels is the rare angel investor group that fully understands technology startups that sell to and through IT channel partners.
6. What About Diversity? Still, we know there’s room for improvement. For instance, we know that our current group lacks diversity. We want to attract the best and brightest accredited investors from ALL backgrounds. And we want to support entrepreneurs of ALL backgrounds. Please spread the word on those two important points, and send the best-and-brightest people from all backgrounds our way.
